Ways to Give
Every gift helps a child or family find hope. Here is every way you can give.
Giving opportunities are varied, from immediate cash gifts, to gifts of stock and property, to memorial and honor gifts that recognize individuals important to you, and legacy gifts made through your estate.
Whether providing annual operating funds to meet the daily needs of children and families or gifts designated for a specific purpose, such as a capital need, replacement of aging equipment, or funding an endowment to provide perpetual income, your gifts will have a big impact on the lives of children and families in need.
Give once or every month
The simplest way to help is a gift online. A monthly gift gives Miracle Farm Boys Ranch steady support we can plan around all year.
Stock Gifts
Gifts of appreciated stock can help you avoid capital gains tax while supporting children and families. You can transfer shares electronically through our Round Rock Edward Jones broker, or send certificates to the Children At Heart Foundation office.
How to transfer stock
The procedure for transferring stock depends on how the stock is held by the donor. Stock certificates should be delivered or mailed to the Children At Heart Foundation. A certified stock power certificate should also be delivered or mailed separately from the certificate. Stock held in street name by a broker can be transferred electronically. Donors are able to designate a particular ministry, program, or project to benefit from their gift if they wish.
Electronic transfer process
The electronic delivery of stock shares is the most secure and expedient delivery process available and provides efficient internal control as well as cost savings. However, you may also transfer certificates directly. It is very important that the Children At Heart Foundation be notified before a stock transfer, as the name of the donor is generally omitted in the transfer. Special instructions are generally needed for mutual funds and other securities. Please follow the steps below and use the form above to donate stock.
Step 1: Initiate transfer
There are three common methods of gifting securities to Children At Heart Foundation. The first is electronic transfer through which your broker can transfer shares using the Children At Heart Foundation DTC number. The second is to personally deliver stock certificates to the Children At Heart Foundation office. The third is to mail the paper certificates to Children At Heart Foundation.
If you use the electronic transfer method, you must contact your broker to initiate the transfer. Your broker may require the Stock Transfer Form to authorize the transfer.
Step 2: Method of delivery
A. Securities delivered electronically. Donate your stock through our Round Rock Edward Jones broker:

If you mail, please send by registered mail to:

Step 3: Notification of donor intent

- Donor’s name and complete address
- Name and number of securities transferred
- Name of brokerage house shares will be transferred to (Edward Jones or UBS Financial)
- Date of the transfer
- Specific designation of gift if any (Gifts may be designated for Miracle Farm Boys Ranch. All undesignated gifts will be used for all ministries or where needed most.)

IRA Rollover Gifts
If you are 70½ or older, you can give directly from your IRA. A qualified charitable distribution goes straight to the ministry, can count toward your required minimum distribution, and is not counted as taxable income.
How IRA rollover gifts work
What are Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs)?
The IRS requires owners of IRAs to begin annual withdrawals from these accounts after they turn 70½ years old. The amount that you have to withdraw is determined by your age, the amount you have saved in an IRA, and your life expectancy.
These distributions must be made each subsequent year, and failing to make a withdrawal may result in penalty taxes on the amount that should have been withdrawn.
What is a QCD?
Distributions from an IRA are usually treated as taxable income. However, you can avoid this taxable income by making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA trustee to a qualified charity.
Rules, limitations, and forms
The IRA Rollover was born out of the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA). It was important because it could help older taxpayers satisfy their required minimum distribution (RMD) requirements while obtaining their charitable giving goals. It permitted individuals to roll over up to $100,000 from an individual retirement account (IRA) directly to a qualifying charity without it being included in their gross income. The Act expired and was extended several times until it was made permanent in 2015.
Qualifying for an IRA charitable rollover
- The donor must be at least aged 70½ at the time of the gift.
- Distributions have to be made from the IRA trustee directly to the charity. If a distribution check is made payable to you, the distribution would NOT qualify as a QCD and would be treated as taxable income.
- For those who are at least 73 years old, QCDs count toward the IRA owner’s required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year (IR-2023-215, Nov. 16, 2023 update).
- Distributions must come from a traditional IRA or Roth IRA. Some plans, such as 401k, 403b, and SEPs, are not eligible.
Making a distribution
Making a distribution is an easy process. Simply contact your plan administrator and tell them you would like to make a charitable donation from your IRA. Typically, they will supply you with a distribution form for you to fill out and return.
In some cases, your administrator may tell you that they have to send the check directly to you. That is fine; however, in order to have a qualified charitable distribution (QCD), the check would need to be made payable to Children At Heart Foundation. You would then simply mail the check to us and tell us which ministry you’d like to designate to receive your gift. NOTE: If the check is made out to you, it will not qualify for the charitable deduction.
At the end of the year, the administrator will provide you with a Form 1099-R so you can report it on your taxes. The distribution will go on your Form 1040 tax return, where you will report the distribution as a non-taxed QCD. See the Form 1040 instructions and contact your tax professional for additional information.

Property Gifts
Gifts of real estate and other appreciated property can support the ministries while avoiding capital gains tax. Real estate is welcome when it can be used by one of our ministries or sold to fund the work.
More about property gifts
If you make an outright gift of appreciated assets to any qualified charity, you are not subject to capital gains tax. Likewise, when the charity sells the asset, it is exempt from paying capital gains tax. Therefore, outright gifts of appreciated assets, such as publicly-traded securities, real estate, and other usable or readily marketable assets, can be economically advantageous to both the donor and the charity.
Real estate
Real estate gifts are welcomed by Children At Heart Ministries and Miracle Farm Boys Ranch if the property can be used by one of our ministries to serve children or if it can be readily sold and the proceeds used for serving children. Children At Heart Ministries will generally not accept real estate gifts that one of its ministries cannot use, real estate that cannot be readily sold, or real estate that contains environmental hazards.
